Developing or refining a Product-Service System (PSS) requires a holistic approach that spans the entire value chain. Unlike traditional product development and sales strategies, PSS involves balancing the relationship between physical products and the services that enhance or accompany them.
This guide was developed as part of the “Product-Service Systems in the Nordics” project for the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Vision initiative. As part of this project, over 100 stakeholders were consulted, offering invaluable insights into the opportunities and challenges of implementing PSS across the region. For further insights about the project, read the
full project report.
Many PSS providers face recurring challenges, such as a shortage of specialised expertise and a lack of necessary tools and templates. PSS development is an iterative process where each cycle of learning informs and improves the business model.
Tools and guides are instrumental in this process, providing structured methods to evaluate and enhance PSS components from initial concept to full implementation. By using these resources, companies can streamline their development cycles, reduce risks, and improve the synergy between product features and service delivery.
This guide highlights essential international and Nordic tools for advancing PSS solutions in the Nordics. It is intended for current PSS providers, as well as businesses exploring PSS for the first time and aiming to integrate it into their operations.
