Summary of Perspectives’ work on the ‘Paris alignment’ of ECAs
Perspectives’ work on the ‘Paris alignment’ of ECAs began in 2020 with a study examining climate change policies for export credit and insurance agencies. Building on this, we developed a ‘Paris alignment methodology’ for ECAs in 2021, consisting of five assessment dimensions with 18 key questions and 72 concise benchmarks (adjusted for this best practice guide; see overview below). Since then, twelve assessments of ECAs across Europe, North America, and Asia have been conducted. To influence policy discussions and decision-making processes, we presented our findings at major international forums, including COPs (26, 27, 28, 29). We also directly engaged with OECD stakeholders, presenting twice at the OECD Export Credits Forum, and holding two roundtables with expert stakeholders on the OECD Arrangement reform (see Figure 3). Through these efforts, our work has also garnered attention from media outlets such as the New York Times, Global Trade Review, and Climate Home News (see further Perspectives Climate Research, 2024).
