NovasArc is a research project funded by The Nordic Council of Ministers – Nordic Working Group for Oceans and Coastal Areas) (NHK) and focuses on improving knowledge and understanding of the distribution and vulnerability of deep-sea ecosystems in Nordic Seas. The project aims to provide data-driven recommendations to support sustainable management of these ecosystems. For this, the project uses a combination of data collection, modeling, and analysis to achieve its goals. NovasArc uses observational data to develop spatial models that can be used to identify and delineate areas with known or likely occurrence of Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs) using predictive modelling approaches. This work will contribute towards the development of indicators for assessing the pressure level and health status of these ecosystems.
